As summer winds to a close, Wekiva Falls RV Resort in Sorrento, Florida, is busy preparing for their ninth snowbird season. Lucy, the Activities Director, is putting the finishing touches on what is sure to be a full calendar, while Wekiva Falls has been diligently upgrading several areas of the park in preparation season ahead.
Snowbird Season at Wekiva Falls
If you’re lucky to have stayed at Wekiva before, then you probably have visited the onsite concession store housing sundry, limited grocery and RV supplies. The store, known as Mastodon Market, has been closed for the month of September while under a significant renovation. New flooring, better floor plan, faster check out process and an expanded line up of provisions will all be revealed in October. The revamp is in preparation for a second pool that will be featured in front of the store. This gorgeous pool with vast deck/lounge area is expected to debut in 2017.
Along with the store renovation, many sites also received a makeover. These sites, primarily located in the Standard section, now have brand new concrete patios, level parking areas with lush sod, and brand new 50/30 amp service just like the rest of the sites throughout the park. The addition of these upgraded sites brings the 2015-2016 site-work total to 350+ sites that have received a little TLC. Staying for three months or more? You are welcome to specifically reserve one of these brand-new sites.
Snowbird Fun at Wekiva Falls
Of course one of the most important parts of any snowbird vacation are the activities! Building upon seasons past, Lucy has developed a calendar that retains good old-fashioned events like bingo nights and potluck dinners. She also adds a lot of excitement with new programs. Last year, Lucy introduced a “Sip and Paint” event. She expects this year to be even better with an instructor leading classes to help painters of all levels perfect their style and complete the picture at hand. Best part? The event is BYOB.
Highlights from years’ past include themed weekends and dances. This year, the Christmas event will feature a special program put on by park volunteers. Customer Appreciation Weekend will feature a presentation from the Friends of the Wekiva River, who will indulge guests in the history and preservation of the river. Vow renewals will be hosted on Valentine’s Day, and a Hawaiian Luau will take place at the end of March. Don’t forget your dancing shoes for a party in the clubhouse every other Saturday evening. The calendar will also be filled with standard weekly events like aerobics, crafts, bunco, Hot Wheel car races and “community campfire” evenings.
Whether you’re looking to relax in the Florida sunshine or keep yourself completely preoccupied, Wekiva Falls RV Resort offers the perfect platform for you to start your snowbird vacation.
