We have a side-by-side closet, which came with a very large shelf. In order to prevent items from toppling out, we purchased an elastic cargo net, which can be found at most auto-parts stores. Just screw in some hooks (around the shelf area) and when traveling, loop the ends of the netting over the hooks.
