When traveling with pets there are many preparations to make, and after having made them, you’ll likely want to simply sit back and enjoy the ride. And for the most part, that’s exactly what you can do as long as you follow just a few common-sense guidelines while on the road.
While on the road with your pet,
- Use caution when leaving your pet unattended in a vehicle. The temperature in parked vehicles can climb quickly and endanger or kill your pet. Lock all doors and open enough windows to provide adequate ventilation. If the windows are not screened, remember to limit the opening so your pet cannot jump out or get its head stuck. In warm weather, ensure that the air conditioner is functioning and that there is constant access to a fresh supply of cool water.
- Traveling and unfamiliar settings may cause your pet to become nervous, and familiar objects may help reduce anxiety. Remember to bring your pet’s favorite bed, toys and dishes.
- Try to stick to your regular feeding routine whenever possible. When traveling, give the main meal at the end of the day or after you have reached your final destination.
- At campgrounds, keep your pet on a leash and in sight at all times. In rural areas, skunks, snakes, coyotes, raccoons, and even other camper’s animals can bite or injure your pet.
- Consider traveling with a kennel to contain your pet at campgrounds and at other times when you don’t want it roaming around the RV.

OUR 16 MONTH OLD FEMALE LAB IS STARTING TO SHAKE WHEN EVER SHE GETS INTO A CAR, PICKUP OR RV. SHE HAS BEEN A VEHICLE WITH US 5-7 DAYS OUT OF THE WEEK FROM THE AGE OF 4 MONTHS. THIS HAS STARTED WITHIN THE LAST 2 MONTH. NOTHING HAS EVER HAPPENED TO HER IN A VEHICLE. WE DO NOT ABUSE HER OR HIT HER. WE TRY TO MAKE HER CONFERTIBLE AND TALK TO HER AND EVEN GIVE HER TREATS. WE HAVE NOT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IS CAUSEING THIS OCCURANCE.
