Instagram users Andrew & Sarah & Billie shared this remarkable drone shot of a sea of RVs in the desert around Quartzsite.

Every winter, the small community of Quartzsite, Arizona, transforms into the largest swap meet on the planet. Thousands of snowbirds, rockhounds and campers descend on this expanse of desert on Interstate 10 west of Phoenix starting in the fall for a slew of flea markets, gem shows and lifestyle events. For many RVers, the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show is the main attraction.

The local campgrounds fill up quickly, but there’s lots of space on surrounding Bureau of Land Management desert. Some visitors come only to shop for crystals, souvenirs and gear, while others set out for adventure in the surrounding wilderness, like the nearby Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. With many facets of this year’s Quartzsite extravaganza going strong through March, the Good Sam team connected with some of our Instagram friends who made the journey into the desert. Check out Good Sam’s Instagram for the latest camping and RV news.

When we met 9 years ago working on a cruise ship, we knew traveling would be a big part of our lives. But never did we think we would be living in a converted school bus driving around the United States. Now we are experiencing our first RTR in Quartzsite, Arizona. It’s so exciting to meet up with other like-minded people traveling in buses, vans, and RVs of all kinds, sharing stories and having meaningful conversations around the campfire every night. . If you are at RTR, send us a messege and hopefully, we can meet up. . Every night of this trip, no matter what camp or group we’ve been a part of, there has always been a community campfire. It’s a place to unwind, warm up, share stories, and get to know each other better. But last night was a little different.⚡ Yesterday was the “Super Blood Wolf Moon” – which seems like something out of a sci-fi novel, but it actually means that the sun, earth, and moon were aligned for a brief time. 🌌 We howled at the moon, shared a communal chocolate pie, and wrote down things we want to let go of and burned the notes in the fire. We also wrote down our good intentions to keep for the upcoming year. We thought about running naked through the desert, but it was a little cold and windy for that.🌵😰 It was fitting to share this evening where we started in the desert with friends we’ve met along the way.🌅⛺ Did you do anything special for the Super Blood Wolf Moon?🌚🌠 . . . . . . . . #campfire #fireside #superbloodwolfmoon #firelight #camping #community #rtr #rtr2019 #skooliepalooza #skooliepalooza2019 #ritual #renewal #campfirecommunity #diycamper #bloodmoon #affirmations #desertcamp #quartzsite #homeiswhereyouparkit #camperlifestyle #lifeontheroad #lifestyleoverluxury #optoutside
