Every winter, the small community of Quartzsite, Arizona, transforms into the largest swap meet on the planet. Thousands of snowbirds, rockhounds and campers descend on this expanse of desert on Interstate 10 west of Phoenix starting in the fall for a slew of flea markets, gem shows and lifestyle events. For many RVers, the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show is the main attraction.
The local campgrounds fill up quickly, but there’s lots of space on surrounding Bureau of Land Management desert. Some visitors come only to shop for crystals, souvenirs and gear, while others set out for adventure in the surrounding wilderness, like the nearby Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. With many facets of this year’s Quartzsite extravaganza going strong through March, the Good Sam team connected with some of our Instagram friends who made the journey into the desert.
