Now that the Winter Olympics are upon us, any citizen worth his or her salt is following the action. But what are you to do if you are camping and do not have a television set at your disposal? Easy, stay up to date with your smartphone!

NBC Olympic Smartphone AppThere are numerous apps available to enable you to follow the action wherever you are. I will discuss three of my favorites in this post. All three are free of charge and available through either the Itunes store (for iPhones) or Google Play(or Android users).

NBC Olympic Smartphone App ScheduleThe one to which I refer most often is the official NBC Olympics app. The opening page is simply SOCHI2014 with the NBC peacock logo. This app provides nearly anything you could want to know about the games. Looking at the first open page, you have a choice of viewing “Top Videos”, “Results and Schedules”, and “What’s Hot”. Results and Schedules gives you a schedule for the current day and any results (if you with to view them) of events already completed for the day.  The most popular videos are available for your to view, as are articles about the hottest events of the day.

NBC Sports Extra Olympic Smartphone AppAnother good choice is the NBC Live Extra app. This app gives you a complete schedule of all upcoming events, even in days to come. It will also give you the option to set a reminder on your phone for when your anticipated event will be played.

Team USA Smartphone AppThe final app I will profile is the Team USA app. Profiling the athletes from the USA, this app also features an athlete of the day (Friday, February 7th it was Freestyle Skier Hannah Kearney), a sport of the day (Figure Skating) and a story of the day (Jamie Anderson leads Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarders into Final). It is a nice way to learn more about our athletes and their performances in the games.

There are other apps that can keep you up to date as well, but these are just a few to get you started. After all, we only have this opportunity every four years. Why not make the most of it-no matter where you are currently staying.
