Winnebago Era
A look at a popular RV choice, Class B Motor Homes. There are three classes of self powered motorized RV’s built today. The class “A”, a bus-like profile available generally from 30 to 45 feet in length. The class “C” type, a vehicle constructed using a cutaway van front end united to a custom built mini coach body. These are primarily found in vehicle lengths of 20 to 30 feet. There are also Super “C’s” that use a full size truck front-end that rival class “A’s” in size and cost, but these are somewhat less popular. Finally there is the class “B” coach. This class consists of a customized van body with extended headroom, additional width and of course, extra length. Available vehicle length in this class generally conforms to 18 to 25 feet.
The smaller of these, the Class B Motor Home, was born in the early 1970’s and has gained in popularity through the years. Its popularity has been driven in part by the following factors:
- Ease to drive, not much different than the family automobile.
- Far more economical to operate. Lighter, smaller and more fuel efficient.
- No storage needed. In most cases can be stored in your driveway.
- No additional vehicle required. Small enough to be used as your get around vehicle.
- More maneuverable in tight quarters.
Class B Motor Homes today offers all the amenities found in much larger rigs. Full kitchen galley facilities, enclosed head, washroom complete with shower, are actually few and far between. Generally they sleep at least two and possibly four with dining seating for all.
