Guadalupe Mountains National Park
Rising from the Chihuahuan Desert just fifty-five miles (89 Km) south of Carlsbad is the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Viewers will be in awe with the incredible vistas, flourishing vegetation, and countless species of wildlife that thrive in the park. Begin your visit at the Pine Springs Visitor Center, where you will find exhibits about the park’s geology, plant and animal life.

High ancient sea ledges, deep rocky canyons, flowering cactus and desert wildlife—treasures above the ground in the Chihuahuan Desert. Hidden beneath the surface are more than 119 caves—formed when sulfuric acid dissolved limestone leaving behind caverns of all sizes.
Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park
A native wildlife zoo, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, exhibits more than 40 species of animals and hundreds of species of plants native to the
Chihuahuan Desert
The park provides an up-close experience for visitors, with a variety of fun interpretive programs for every age.
Located on the banks of the Pecos River in Carlsbad, the Pecos River Recreation Area hosts the Riverwalk Recreation Center and Playground on the Pecos. Highlighted by multiple picnic areas, paddle boat and kayak rentals and various boat tours, it’s the perfect family getaway. Saturday nights during the summer feature free movies sponsored by Carlsbad Cruise Lines.
Christmas on the Pecos
A favorite with visitors is Christmas on the Pecos. Enchanted evening boat tours on the Pecos River provide panoramic views of illuminated backyards and islands of twinkling lights. Available November 24th through December 31st
