There are many different ways to RV, but today we’re going to discuss two RV lifestyles. There are RV touring folks and there are RV destination campers. RV destination campers go to a given destination for their entire vacation. Touring folks spend their time traveling from one location to another. The latter group of “Rolling Stones” may feel they find it more adventurous to keep moving, spending only a night or two at each stop. Many of them do not reserve a site, except an occasional same day phone call during busy times.
Those people that choose to remain at one campsite for extended periods of time may have a larger family accompanying them. Children, for example, get bored quickly while motor touring and would far prefer playing outside or perhaps swimming at a beach or on-site pool. This method of RVing is generally less costly as you are not continually consuming fuel moving to the next site.
These two types of RV campers gravitate naturally to a RV class that better fits their type of lifestyle. Many of the “Rolling Stones” favor motorized self-contained vehicles. While the extended stay folks may tend to choose more towed trailers units. For this purpose a large travel trailer or fifth wheel can provide a large cottage-like accommodation for a good sized family and leave their tow vehicle to get out and tour locally.
The wanderer that likes to continue to travel from site to site chooses a wide variety of vehicles. Class A, B, C, and truck mounted campers fit the bill well for this application. While there are towed type units that are also used in this manner, it is probably to a lesser extent.
Faced with the high fuel costs today, more RV owners are selecting destinations within a reasonable distance and staying in place longer. Some of these destinations, however, may take several days to reach if one takes their time. This can offer a perfect mix of traveling adventure and vacation resort stay.
With so many choices of rig types, destinations, and lifestyles, it is no wonder that family camping is growing at such a rate. So, which type of camper are you? If you’re not sure of your preference, why not try both? Just get out and go for it. All RV types are capable of either lifestyle. The main thing is just to get out and enjoy.

We do both. Just returned from an 8300 mile RV trip where we saw a lot of new and interesting things, and we enjoyed that, but parking in one nice spot for a week is much more restful. We call in RVing (on the road) and camping (in one spot). It is not the same thing and we enjoy both.

we leave out camper at a campground about 5.5 hrs from our home. it's not ON any specific site, much cheaper to store it. They move it to the site for us. We describe it as our "cabin in the Poconos" to those who think we're nuts to leave it in one place. but this works for our current work filled lives.

I have mine parked permanently and love it. Made wonderful friends and we cook together, eat together and in off seasons we still get together. Even in winter months we go to our campers (can't use them cause they are buried in snow) and cookout and hangout for a day every month

We're the go and stay awhile type campers! All our campgrounds are perfect for people to come and make it their home away from home. But then we love the rolling stones too! Everyone needs to stay somewhere once in awhile where they feel like family.
