Trailer Life Cream of the Crop Campsites: Wells Beach Resort—Wells, Maine
While cruising the southern coast of Maine, stop for a day or two in scenic Wells, a historic village with plenty of natural beauty. Wells Beach Resort is a great place to park the rig. It’s a family-owned, pet-friendly RV resort with good paved interior roads just a mile from the beach. There are 215 level, gravel RV campsites, all with full hookups (20/30/50 amp) plus cable TV and free WiFi. Pull-thru sites measure 30×60’ while back-in sites measure 28×42’. There’s fun for the whole family at this park: the kids can amuse themselves at the two playgrounds, play a game of basketball or toss a ball around on the recreation field. The adults can spend an afternoon playing bocce ball, horseshoes, sand volleyball or shuffleboard. Everyone can have fun in the recreation room or trying out the park’s 18-hole mini-golf course. The heated outdoor pool offers a relaxing place to soak up the sun and splash around if you need a break from the salty sea water of the nearby beaches. Arrived at Wells “Beach” Resort 10 minutes prior to the check in time and was told to leave and come back or pay a $10.00 “early check in fee”. Since there was no room to turn around without unhooking, I paid the extra fee in addition to their regular fees which are the highest in the area even though I could see that our reserved site was unoccupied. The sites here sites are crowed and, IMO, the campground is way overrated, noisy (located right on busy Rt. 1 with no setback for the front area). The owners attitude is that they will get you for all they can as they fill the place up all summer. We have since found bigger, better area resorts with better amenities and friendly owners and staff who appreciate your business. Personally, I willnot go here again.
