We would like to salute the outstanding achievement of dedicated members Ginny and Paul Barcroft, who recently received one of the highest Good Sam state honors – the Oregon Good Sam Shining Star Award.

As the 1980s rhythm-and-blues hit goes, “You are my shining star, don’t you go away. Wanna be right here where you are, until my dying day.” According to former Oregon Good Sam Director Mary Swanson, that’s exactly where Oregon members want the state’s Shining Star Award recipients, Ginny and Paul Barcroft, to be: “Right here where we are!”

Members of the Good Sam Club since the mid-1970s, the Barcrofts have been faithful members of the Willamette Sams chapter since 1993 and state staff volunteers since 1998, serving as chaplain, videographer, sound team member, Project Linus coordinator, Dogs for the Deaf representative and casino night host, among other roles. Ginny has served as the state’s assistant director since 2004. Over the years, the couple has participated in almost every aspect of the Good Sam Club from chapter outings to Samborees to Good Sam Rallies.

Created in honor of Oregon’s first state directors, the lifetime achievement award is officially named the Tom and Flo Edwards Shining Star Award for Dedication and Support of Oregon Good Sam. Outgoing state directors Wayne and Mary Swanson recognized the enormous contributions made by the Barcrofts with a surprise announcement at Oregon’s October Rally before hundreds of appreciative Good Sam members who gave the couple a well-deserved round of applause.

“What makes Good Sam an organization we can all be proud of?” asks Mary Swanson. “The values of the people who are involved. Ginny and Paul Barcroft are the best of the best.”

Most Good Sam state and provincial organizations recognize outstanding member achievement with various awards, including honoring a Samboree king and queen. Let us know who’s making a difference in your neck of the woods by sending an email to [email protected].
