Barabra, I am so sorry to hear this. But thank you for your post; I had never considered this possibility before.
Loki is 13 years old, and I would be so upset if she got sick.
Thank you.

This year we decided to go south for the winter. We decided on Quartzsite, Arizona. We spent two months there and in Southern California as we traveled home for a month.
We have traveled with a Siamese mixed cat 19 years old. She passed away the first week we were there. She had traveled with us for years, including Alaska.
We also have a Black Lab, 11 years old. She started coughing and chocking as we were leaving the area. We found a marvelous veterinary hospital in Tuscon. It is the Valley Veterinary Hospital. We would recommend them to anyone. They were so caring, they called at least 5 times while on the road checking on her.
They diagnosed her with Valley Fever, which is prevelent in the Southwest. Humans get this as do animals. We were told if we get sick when we arrived home to have them check for it. It is in the air and ground. Of course her being a Labrador her nose was always checking things out.
She was put on medicine but we are losing her. There is no cure and no prevention.
PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON ALL PETS AS YOU TRAVEL FOR DISEASES THAT ARE NOT PREVETENT IN YOUR AREA.
