Lakewood Camping Resort, the first campground on the Grand Strand, has a very interesting 54-year history of pleasing guests. In 1959, Carl and Marion Perry developed a small 125-site campground, Camp Beachwood. That investment eventually led to the opening of Lakewood Camping Resort, at that time the only resort of its kind offering customers a resort experience for a fraction of the cost of staying in a hotel. Affordability and a focus on family values were the goal of Mr. and Mrs. Perry and that same set of values has been passed down to their children and grandchildren who continue to own and operate the campground.
Today the resort has grown to 1100 campsites, 105 rental villas and more than 790 park model villas owned by individuals from all over North America. With luxurious amenities spread across 200 acres of prime oceanfront real estate, Lakewood has grown to be one of the largest camping resorts in the world. This award winning mega RV Park was recognized as the Mega Park of the year for 2010-11 and received the “Best of South Carolina” Award in 2012-13 plus numerous other accolades, making it the choice for countless families that return year after year. You are invited to come and join the fun!
