Families and groups will feel welcome at the enclosed pavilion, with eight picnic tables, or on the basketball or volleyball courts. Set the kids loose on the play area or try your hand at yooper-shoes, the Polish version of horseshoes.

If you feel like exploring nature, set out on the nature trail that winds through the 40 acres of surrounding woods, with stands of poplars and wildlife that ranges from blue birds to busy hummingbird moths.

Adventurous travelers can go agate hunting on the shores of Lake Superior, just a half-hour away. Also on the shores of Superior, in the town of Paradise, is the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, where displays on the Edmund Fitzgerald and other famous maritime disasters shed light on the challenges faced by intrepid mariners.

During winter, visitors can hit the nearby snowmobile and cross country skiing trails, which are groomed for safe enjoyment.
