Casino Camping Location Report – Southern Indiana

If you’ve been following my posts we’ve taken a quick trip through the central Midwest, stopping at casinos in Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana.  We’re traveling with a schedule to keep, so we had to skip some RV friendly places, but we’ll catch those next time.  Our last stop in Indiana was on the Ohio River at the Horseshoe Casino in Elizabeth.

Located just across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY, this is a convenient spot for visits into Louisville, and only a few miles off the interstate, so it’s not a big detour if you’re only staying one night.  This was previously a Caesars Casino and is now owned by Harrah’s.

As you can see in the photo, they have plenty of room for RV parking, and the photo only shows half the parking lot!  It’s well lit and patrolled regularly by security.  They will ask you when you arrive how long you plan to stay.  A few days is fine, they just want to keep out the squatters.  It does have a bit of a slope, but we didn’t need to use jacks.  It can get a little noisy with the trucks coming and going, but there are shorter spaces on one side of the lot marked for RVs, about 45′ long and a truck won’t fit there.  Note that it’s a LONG walk to the casino – probably a quarter of a mile (I kid you not).

The casino is fairly nice, and large, but it’s on a 4 deck dockside riverboat and there are lots of escalators.  I actually got lost once and had to ask someone how to get out of the casino!  There are several good restaurants and a buffet.  FYI, smoking is permitted everywhere; casino and restaurants.

Other RV Friendly Casinos

There are four other RV friendly casinos in Southern Indiana that we weren’t able to visit on this trip.  I’ll just list them here, and you can read what other travelers said about them at www.casinocamper.com

Argosy Casino, Lawrenceburg, IN
Belterra Casino, Florence, IN
French Lick Casino, French Lick, IN
Grand Victoria Casino, Rising Sun, IN

That’s it for the Midwest until next fall, and this is probably my last “Casino Camping Location Report” until at least next spring.  Next week I’ll be talking about saving money while casino camping, and then I plan to post a gambling article.

Happy travels and good luck in the casinos!

Mac

My wife and I took a Christmas trip down to Florida this past Dec and most of Jan, We stopped in Memphis for a few days then headed down to Tunica MS.
We wanted to stay at Samstown Casino RV Resort but they didnt have the days we wanted so we opted for the Hollywood Casino and their RV Park! What a GEM!
We loved the place and everyone was so freindly. We will definatly stay there again. After there we drove to Bay St. Louis, MS. and stayed there at the Hollywood Casino . Seems they had just been purchased by the same group so their perks couldnt be used at both casinos. We liked it there but the RV Park rates were much higher than the Tunica rates. But in all fairness they gave us a discount because of accumulated points on our casino cards so it worked out well. We are planning another Tunica trip right now! I wish there were more casinos with RV parks in the midwest. Matter of fact I dont know of any here in Michigan. Hooray for Mississippi……!
