The Good Samaritan Spirit is alive and well in the Pine Tree State
When Maine’s winter releases its icy grip, folks love to kick off the transition to summer by going to RV shows. Many look forward to seeing their Good Sam friends there, and this year they received a double dose of smiles as they witnessed the Good Samaritan spirit in action.
The Maine Campground Owners Association—organizers of April’s Vacationland RV and Camping Show in Portland—challenged the public to bring at least two nonperishable food items to support the state’s Good Shepherd Food-Bank. The response was overwhelming.
A team representing five Maine Good Sam chapters greeted show-goers at the two-day event to accept the food donations, carefully pack them in containers and load them into a waiting truck. Best estimates placed the amount of collected food going to needy families at 5,000 pounds.
The Maine members also staffed the Good Sam Club’s booth at the show, including one set of Good Sam grandparents who extolled the virtues of chapter membership while their grandson packed cans and dry goods for the food bank.
