This week-end I caught my husband counting the weeks on his iPhone.    I was wondering what he was doing and then I realized he was counting the number of weeks before we can go up to our RV at the campground.   Total is fourteen weeks.   Fourteen weeks before we can drive to our RV and open it up for the season.

Let me tell you that the weeks are not passing by fast enough according to the kids.   My four years old keep asking when we will go and remind us that we need to bring her pink blanket with us when we do.   She recently told us that we should not forget our plastic containers with the clothes when we go.

Too funny!  You can sense her passion for camping and fishing as well.

So slowly we are wrapping up our homeschool.   The kids still have about eleven weeks to complete their mathematics.   My oldest as finished his English writing curriculum.   English grammar is almost completed as well.   Bottom line we are doing good even though the French lessons won’t be done for some time.  The kids are already talking about fishing trips and swimming in the lake.  Yet there is still snow on the ground.  The sun is getting warmer and I sense that the Canadian geese will be flying above our house soon.    Yes Spring is in the air – another month or so to be exact.

So how do I get prepare for our upcoming camping season?   I am currently finding fun crafts we could do at the trailer.   Recently I was watching a video on how to make fun things with rocks.  The youngest being older now I am looking forward to find rocks and create pets out of them with paint and glue.    I am hoping to do some unit studies on birds, insects and other animals we can see at the campground.

One book I am currently seriously considering is the Handbook of Nature Study by Anna Botsford Comstock.   Not only this book could guide me in teaching the kids about nature like birds, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects, plants, rocks and minerals, soil, climate and weather, water, sky and so on but I could also continue teaching them about drawing, geography, history, maths, and more without they realize it.   It is sneaky but homeschooling happens at any time of the day and wherever you are.    So having this book would be wonderful I find to help us discover more about the forest around us when we are camping.

2012 will be another year of discoveries, fishing, swimming, and exploring our campground and around it.    We might try geocaching again and also travel to discover new places.

For those of you who are waiting patiently for spring to come, what are some of the activities you will do with your family while camping?
