We just finished up a visit to Shreveport, Louisiana.  While we have been through Louisiana several times, we have always taken I-10 and never really stopped and explored.  This is the first time that we have ventured north, and we sure are glad we did!

During our 3 days in Shreveport, we found all sorts of fun things to do, so whether you are a snowbird, or a family on vacation, here are a couple of our favorite local picks…

One of our very favorite destinations was Holiday Lanes – a fun, clean, smoke-free bowling alley in Bossier City (NE Shreveport)!  Not your typical RV destination to be sure, but definitely added a fun and memorable aspect to our Shreveport visit!  We loved Holiday Lanes!

The lanes were very well maintained, and even the settee area was classy and comfy with leather couches!  The alley has an enclosed adult lounge complete with large screen tv and pool table, and a pro shop.  The alley is both adult, and family friendly!

We were impressed by how interested our littles were in bowling; they loved the lightweight balls with the small finger holes and short spans, the cute green or pink dinosaur ball ramps, and (I loved!) the electronic bumpers that would

automatically come up for the young players that needed them (programmed in when you enter the names) and back down for those of us that didn’t.

Holiday Lanes is a cheerful, fun activity for on the road!  And if you are going through/staying on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to run in and try their Intergalactic Glow-In-The-Dark bowling!!!  We couldn’t stay due to other reservations, but we really want to come back just to do their glow-in-the-dark bowling!  That has to be a kick!!!

The alley is a bit of a one-stop shop too – there is a cute cafe onsite that serves up burgers, pizzas, desserts, and has The Best Sweet Tea (with free refills!), so you can come before or stay after lunch/dinner!

Our tribe bowled on 2 lanes for 2 hours, and we had the best time – all the kids are anxious to return – this has been one of their fav activities so far this winter!

While we were in Shreveport, we stayed out at the Cypress-Black Bayou Recreation Area.  The park is located on a 86 acres, and borders the Cypress Bayou Reservoir.  The park has 73 campsites (11 FHU,and the rest are W/E) as well as additional tent sites.  The RV sites are paved and level with a few very large pull-thrus (they all tend to run large – we left our 40’+ 5er hooked up to our Dodge crew cab and were still able to park our van in front of them!), and each has it’s own racoon-proof garbage can. 🙂  The campground has bathhouses that include toilet stalls and showers.  The park has a Nature Center building with displays, and there are walking trails.  The park also has it’s own petting zoo!  The kids loved to walk around and see the animals; nearly all the animals are rescue animals that the rangers are trying to rehabilitate (there are a few that are now residents who, due to injuries, cannot be released back into the wild).

DSC_0998_228The campground is located just 12 miles north of Shreveport, and all access is paved and RV friendly.  You can find their website here, which has pages full of information about the park, and contact information if you have questions or would like to make reservations.
Holiday Lanes‘ unique bowling alley is just 2 miles south of 220, and in a non-congested area of town, so it’s easy to access from Cypress-Black Bayou if you chose to stay there (or you can go here to search for a private RV park/resort).
I’ll be posting a few more stops in the next few days, and have a great selection/schedule for visiting Shreveport as a destination, or on your way through!  Shreveport, Louisiana has much to offer travelers; lots of snowbird and family friendly stops full of southern flair!  🙂
