REVIEW: "Cockpit Premium" – an Excellent Interior Cleaning Product

Say what you will about Germans: they know cars. Cockpit Premium (http://goo.gl/OwFRBV) is a great example of Teutonic engineering applied to automotive (and RV) interiors.

We may not rave about German food and humor. The nation’s historical record with regard to human tolerance is, well, nothing to brag about.

But when it comes to cars and beer? We must give credit where it is due. They know their stuff. With Cockpit Premium, we can bring a little German detailing expertise into our all-American RVs.

Cockpit Premium is an interior cleaner made by einszett, a family-owned German company that’s been making high end detailing products for many decades. Of course einszett makes the excellent Gummi Pflege product that’s great for maintaining rubber seals.

Cockpit Premium is a fine choice for cleaning an RV or auto interior without leaving behind a lot of shiny or greasy residue.

In my own personal application, Cockpit Premium cleans all plastic parts that don’t require Plexus. (Plexus is the “champagne of cleaners” when it comes to cleaning plastic; Cockpit Premium is more like a quality craft beer – a fine German lager, of course.)

Cockpit Premium is water-based and silicone-free. The latter trait is particularly important.

Some el cheapo interior cleaners contain silicone that can (ironically) damage auto interiors over time.

Back in the 1980s, many car owners used silicone-based cleaners on their interiors, only to later discover that the products led to unsightly cracks in plastic and vinyl.

Here's my own bottle of Cockpit Premium in our Ford F250's premium cockpit. (Click the pic for more info.)

I once replaced a sadly cracked dashboard in a 1986 Porsche. Over time, a deadly combination of silicone cleaners and sunshine had turned the dashboard into an appalling mess. If only the original owner of the car had used Cockpit Premium.

Cockpit Premium is great for interior clear and colored plastic surfaces such as the dash, gauge cluster, navigation and audio screens, and shift knob. (For the clear plastic, however, Plexus remains the King.)

It’s also fine for arm rests, steering wheel, pleather (imitation leather), and finished (coated) leather. I bet Ricardo Montalban used it on rich Corinthian leather, too.

Cockpit Premium leaves a shine-free, non-slip finish that repels dust.

It’s a mild cleaning product. It does a good job of removing dust and dirt, but it won’t harm soft touch materials or painted plastic trim surfaces.

Cockpit Premium contains sun-blocking agents that help maintain your interior’s original condition.

Oh, and Cockpit Premium leaves behind a refreshing citrus scent, so it also works like a mild air freshener.

My approach to interior cleaning is to apply Cockpit Premium to the mass areas. (Then I break out the Plexus for clear gauge plastics and so forth.)
