EXPERIENCE THE NEW WEST in Buffalo, Wyoming

Buffalo, Wyoming - mopuntains

Buffalo, Wyoming you’ll find the laid-back charm of a true Western community. Buffalo is nestled at the base of the Big Horn Mountains. We sit at the crossroads of I-90 & I-25, and U.S. Hwy 16- the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway- is the preferred route to Yellowstone National Park. Buffalo is a fantastic place to visit.

EXPLORE THE OLD WEST

Walk in the paths of pioneers, outlaws, gold miners, soldiers, and cowboys. Since being founded in 1879, Buffalo has seen its share of historic personalities: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, “Buffalo Bill” Cody, Tom Horn, Calamity Jane, Teddy Roosevelt and Owen Wister sought out a cozy bed and a strong drink in town. Historic sites like Fort Phil Kearney, Hole-In-The-Wall and the TA Ranch, home to the climactic end of the Johnson County Cattle Wars are all within short driving distance. That history, mixed with quaint shops, great
restaurants and friendly folk, make Buffalo a place to spend some quality time!

HORSEBACK RIDING

From the rolling foothills to the up and down of rugged terrain, the Buffalo area provides a pleasant atmosphere for horses and riders alike. From ranches to outfitters to self guided trails, there is a little something for every level of horseback rider. For a full on Old West experience, choose a stay at one of our local ranches. Dude ranches will allow you to learn the ways of the cowboys of yesteryear. Stay a week at Klondike or Eaton’s ranches to work cattle on horseback and live like a real live cowboy.

For a more leisurely approach, pick a stay at Paradise, HF Bar or TA guest ranches. Here, you can enjoy the majestic beauty of the area in rustic luxury. Guided rides are available through the breathtaking scenery. For travelers with a busy schedule, shorter stays may be more suitable to your needs. Single day rides of various lengths are available at local outfitters, like Triple Three Ranch, South Fork Lodge and Buffalo Mountain Outfitters. Choose from hourly, half day, full day and pack trip riding options.

FISHING

For the fisherman, Wyoming Game & Fish helps to keep a healthy population for baiting your hook. There are all different species of trout (Brown, Brook, Cutthroat, Rainbow, Lake and Golden) in addition to the other fish inhabiting our many reservoirs, streams and lakes (Tiger Muskie, Grayling, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass and more). From quick catch and release to expert fly fishing, there’s a little something for all ages and skill levels in the area.
