Take a drive on the wild side at Mustang Hollow RV Park, located 35 miles northwest of Corpus Christi and just west of Lake Corpus Christi. The RV park sits on 47 wooded acres in a wildlife area, home to scores of colorful birds that flock to this subtropical region.

When you’re not watching the wildlife, check out the 137-site park’s scheduled activities, which include scheduled fish fries and wild hog roasts for guests. Owners of larger RVs will enjoy the ample 50-amp sites, some as long as 90 feet.

Surf the free Wi-Fi from the comfort of your RV, or host big events at the pavilion, which is equipped with a kitchen. A group coordinator helps guests organize chapter events or family reunions, and a catering service provides food so you don’t have to worry about feeding the group. There’s also a Hunt Brothers Pizza on site for a tasty meal.

Sedentary travelers can lounge around the pool, which is open year-round. More adventurous travelers should hit the road for a day trip to Padre Island National Seashore, located just south of Corpus Christi. This preserved area consists of more than 130 thousand acres of undeveloped dunes, grasslands and sandy beaches.

Equally wild are Mustang Island Paddling Trail, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. History buffs can walk the decks of the 910-foot-long U.S.S. Lexington Museum, moored at Corpus Christi, or explore King Ranch, a working ranch that was founded in 1853 sprawls across 825,000 acres of South Texas land. Another big attraction is the Texas Aquarium, where jellyfish, dolphins and other creatures swim in gigantic, man-made environments.

You’ll even find history in the confines of the park. The area is designed at Karankawa Indian State Archeological Landmark, and you might come across  arrowheads and other artifacts lying undiscovered on the property.

Open year-round, the park has a snackbar, sells firewood and propane, and has a gated entrance. Forty-six cabins and cottages are available for travelers who don’t arrive in RVs.
