China’s pilot project of electric vehicle charging and replacement facilities is now in full operation with nearly 90 standard charge and replacement power stations, almost 5,200 charger and 7,000 AC charge spots, covering 26 provinces, enabling China to boast of the most extensive charging facilities in the word.
You often hear that China is the world’s largest importer of foreign oil, and in fact they imported 240 million tons of crude oil in 2010, making it nearly 54% dependent on foreign sources. Cars accounted for 40% of national oil consumption. Globally, vehicle emissions of carbon dioxide accounted for 28% of the total.
China’s National Grid has established a laboratory for electric vehicle battery characteristics, an essential component for the development of electric vehicle industry. In 2011, the National Grid will build an intercity cross-intelligent charge and replacement power service network in the Bohai Rim region and the Yangtze River Delta.
The agency predicted China’s electric vehicles will grow to 500,000 by 2015. To meet the requirements of the development of electric vehicles, the State Grid will build 2,351 charge and replacement power stations and 220,000 charge spots during the Five-Year Plan period to initially complete the intelligent charge and replacement power service network covering the business area and vigorously continue to promote the development of electric vehicles in China.
I wonder how long it will take the US to catch up and whether China will beat the US in reducing foreign oil imports. Even skeptics can see the electrification of an ever increasing percentage of the world’s new vehicle sales, however they might disagree with the EV proponents on how long it will take for that figure to become substantial.
But if we allow China to take the lead role in the development of batteries, EV components and drive motors, charging station development, solar and wind component production, and other non-fossil fuel energy capacities, they will eventually dominate–as they are now headed–the EV and alternate energy markets.
And if that happens, we may be waiting a long time before we can buy competitively priced EV dinghys or replace our fossil fuel burning RVs with cleaner, efficient, electric or hybrid powered vehicles.

I was just seeking this info for a while. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your website. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this type of informative web sites in top of the list. Normally the top websites are full of garbage.

Howdy Guru Bob,
Guess we better learn a Chinese dialect or 3 as well as Spanish!!!! With our government being taken apart and nobody working we won’t need EVs, just feet…
Remember most of the Chinese engineers learned over here on tax dollars.. Why
don’t our kids learn something besides football & basketball scores!!!!! NO PARENTAL GUIDANCE!!!!!!!!!!

China also has a large existing fleet of electric delivery vehicles many of which have made the jump from horse less carraige straight to real light electric power by using drive units at each wheel. Some of these made it to the west coast and recieved the classic ‘we have never done that before” reception from vehicle DMV and could only be licensed (read insured) as 25 mph self powered units not meant to be used on city streets in heavy traffic. They were also a long way from our nany state crash protection. Being ahead of the curve here the dealers did not last long. The technology was good, quality control remains unproved. There are 4 I know of being used daily in Portland. The only electrics being sold in any numbers at cost effective prices are all 3 wheelers which dodge the crash testing by being “motor cycles” to DMV. China is proving by example the only way that clean transport will ever happen, by government edict with government support. And remember that “clean” is relative, hydro power produces no smoke, nukes produce no smoke, the major NE power is very smokey, less than individual gas power but only less, not a cure.
