An excerpt from 2011 Late Fall Highways magazine
Your RV represents what could be the second largest investment of your life. Every day that your RV goes uncovered, paint and interior surfaces fade, while vinyl, rubber, leather and fabrics dry, crack and deteriorate. Unless you’re a full timer, your RV may sit for months exposed to UV rays, rain, snow, bird droppings, tree sap and wind-driven dirt and dust. The most versatile protection you can get for your coach is an RV cover featuring TyvekRV fabric.
The Qualities of Tyvek:
– Superior protection from harmful environmental conditions
– Lightweight
– Exceptionally breathable
– Strong, durable and long lasting
– Effectively blocks 99.8% of the sun’s damaging UV rays that can fade interior and exterior surfaces.
– Keeps your RV cooler during warm weather by reflection of sunlight
– Provides superior water resistance, while allowing moisture to escape.
– Resists acid rain, bird droppings, tree sap and other forms of environmental pollution to keep your RV clean.
– Holds out more than 98% of dirt and dust particles that can scratch and damage your RV’s surface.
– Will not promote the formation of mildew.
Fits Your Budget
Selecting the right RV cover will save you time and money in the long run. Choose a cover with a warranty that matches the approximate amount of time that you plan on owning the RV. DuPont TyvekRV fabric is offered in both the 100% TyvekRV Custom-Fit model and the off-the-shelf Contour-Fit line with TyvekRV top and polypropylene side panels. Contour-Fit covers come with a two-year warranty whereas Custom-Fit covers come with a four-year warranty.
Custom Versus Universal
If you intend to own your RV for many years, make the upgrade to a Custom-Fit RV cover so that you don’t have to shop for a new RV cover every few years. Custom-Fit covers made for specific RV models provide better protection than off-the-shelf covers because they conform to the exact contours of the vehicle. For instance, a custom-fit cover will not move around in the wind as much as a typical universal-fit cover. An extra advantage to purchasing a custom cover is the custom placement of zipper doors for access during storage so you easily can go into and out of the RV without going through the trouble of removing the cover.
Maintaining Resale Value
Whether you choose an off-the-shelf RV cover, or something custom made for your particular vehicle, this relatively small investment will perhaps save you thousands of dollars in resale value when you go to
trade-in or sell your RV. While covers might be considered an expensive addition to an already costly rig, the real truth is that they will add resale value as the cover takes the beating from the elements instead of your RV. Imagine how much it would cost to repaint the exterior, purchase and install new graphics, reupholster the dash and front seats and replace the curtains. It’s easy to see how quality covers can actually come out looking like a bargain.
It’s All About the Features
Quality RV covers have four important features:
1 – Reinforced corners prevent snags and prohibit tears for longer life
2 – Front and back cinching systems take up loose slack to limit cover movement on the RV
3 – Straps and buckles hold the cover in place underneath the coach
4 – Zipper entry doors allow easy entry during storage
ADCO’s line of TyvekRV products boasts all of these features and more.
Protect Your Mirrors and Wipers
ADCO’s Mirror and Wiper Cover Set fits both Class A and Class C vehicles. Constructed using DuPont
TyvekRV fabric with black trim, these attractive covers will prevent UV damage and premature aging. They are easy to install and come with a handy storage bag.
Don’t Neglect Your Tires
Tires can also be destroyed by the environment in as little as one season if not properly cared for. It is essential that RV tires be protected from the sun’s damaging UV rays. Tires on RVs kept in storage are subject to premature cracking, especially in the sidewall area. For vehicles used infrequently, this “dry rot” can be greatly reduced by blocking the sun’s rays. Quality coverings that guard against environmental damage, such as the ADCO Ultra Tyre Guard, are available for your tires for a minimal cost. Again, a small investment in covers could save you a lot of money down the road.

What is the best way or product to remove pine sap from your awning? I camp a lot in a camp ground with a lot of pine trees and this is a big problem for me and I would appreciate any ideas or help .
Good Sam
Tom – we checked into your question on Retrofoam. The product claims to prevent mold from growing in your home. However, on older homes, the reviews on this product are mixed. It seems that this product is too new to form a concrete opinion on preventing or causing mold to grow. You should definitely check in the warranty and policy on this product if you decide to use it to make sure that if the product fails, you have viable evidences to back up your situation. If you want to play it safe though, it may be best to go with tried and true methods of insulation right now until this product has been out on the market a few more years for testing. Hope this helps!
Good Sam
Lane, we’re so sorry that you had such a bad experience with an ADCO Tyvek cover. This is not typical as we usually hear positive feedback from our customers on these RV covers. Therefore, we were very surprised when we read your comment, and we know that Camping World will want to take care of this situation. Please email [email protected] along with your member information and the information about your RV cover purchase (date, order number if available, etc)., and we will check into this right away.

I have never been so disappointed in a product as I am with the Tyvek covers. We spent hundreds of dollars on the “contour fit” cover for our class C last fall and the cover lasted only four months. Yes, we followed useage directions to a tee. It is the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. Please be aware that the touted multi-year warranty does not include damage caused by wind. Who doesn’t have wind? The material is so thin it easily rips, especially after the attached straps come loose from their anchor. Do not buy this expensive garbage. You’ll be lucky if you get one season out of it!

Dear Good Sam,
I enjoy your magazine especially Tech Topic and RV clinic. I recently asked other companies if their
foam that they sprayed in wall or homes caused or help grow Mold. No answer from them. Can you help me or contact someone who can.
My 1964 brick built home has little insulation in walls & very drafty. a retrofoam saleman offered to fill those walls with retrofoam.
Can you tell me if retrofoam will grow mold or help cause mold in my home if I use it?
Ypur help is apprecieated,
Tom Mc
