One popular video on our YouTube Channel (http://goo.gl/8iyFmH) offers advice on sleeping in an RV (http://youtu.be/LUSCATWmR8Y). A quality sleep mask like the Lewis & Clark Comfort Eye Mask (http://goo.gl/HEiSdK) really helps one get a good night of sleep.

Advice on sleeping? It sounds crazy, at least until the first time you go camping in your RV. It takes a little time and experience for your sleep in a “home on wheels” to be just as satisfying as sleep in a brick-and-mortar home. With any RV comes a few issues with regard to ambient light and sound.

We’ve found that keeping a few key items in the RV like sleep masks makes a big difference when we’re on the road. Most RVs have some “light leakage” issues, and a quality sleep mask solves them all.

The "comfort sleep mask" is large (that's a good thing as it blocks out light), and the material is nice and soft. (Click the pic for more info.)

It’s also true that sleep involves conditioning. If you regularly wear a sleep mask, you become conditioned to it. In other words, the simple act of putting on the mask can put your mind in a more relaxed state, encouraging sleep.

The Lewis & Clark sleep mask is a well regarded bestseller. It’s certainly a cut above the average masks you might find in your local department store.

The mask consists of a pad of cushioned material that blocks out light. The material is thick and soft. (If you are sleeping in a very warm climate, it might even be too warm.) We usually sleep in cool temperatures whenever possible, so the thickness of the mask feels right to me.

There’s a slight ridge along the lower inside of the mask that help prevent it from pressing too firmly upon the eyes.

The mask is held on by adjustable elastic straps. It’s easy to adjust the proper tension for your needs.

Build quality is pretty decent. We’ve had one for a couple of years that has held up well. In fact, because of our previous positive experience we decided to buy a second mask.

Note that Lewis & Clark recommends hand washing (not machine washing) for the mask. You will get greater longevity by treating the mask with some care.

Some people have reported issues with these masks staining linens. We have encountered no such problems with our long term sample.

Something I have noticed is that our mask tends to collect dust. The particles stick to the soft fleece fabric. This is not really a problem per se; just an annoyance.

I am an admitted sleep wimp. I have a hard time enjoying the day if I didn’t get some quality rest the night before.

And it goes further than enjoyment. Recent studies have indicated that lack of sleep can actually cause irreversible brain damage. (Unfortunately I am not joking.)

So it makes sense to take a few reasonable steps that promote healthy sleep.

The Lewis & Clark comfort eye mask is a relative bargain.

It costs less than 10 dollars, a modest investment for a quality eye mask that contributes to quality sleep.
