Further along our journey east and after our encounter with Accident, Maryland, we have a reservation at the Lone Oak Campsites near Canaan, CT. Along a quiet country highway in Connecticut lies this beehive of activity that is the campground. With plenty of room to roam, the Lone Oak can easily accommodate both the biggest rig on the road and the smallest tent or pop-up.
The Park offers the entire array of amenities: electric, water, sewer, cable, as well as hot showers and spacious laundry facilities. Additionally, Lone Oak provides a wide range of activities to suit campers of all ages and interests. Two pools and a hot tub easily accommodate the water-loving crowd, while a game room and arcade, outdoor play area and general store and ice cream parlor offer sweet treats and respite from daily stresses.
On Friday and Saturday nights during the summer, Lone Oak shows feature films on their giant outdoor movie screen, in addition to offering live music and other entertainment in the adult lounge located on site. Bingo and other card games are also available. Lone Oak also offers theme weekend during the summer, such as Mardi Gras Weekend, Christmas in August and Pirate Adventure Weekend, which feature themed parties, decoration and contests. When we arrived at the end of July, we observed Hawaiian Weekend complete with a luau, pig roast and costume contest. In addition, all campground and road signs were sporting colorful grass skirts!
But the service doesn’t stop there! A fishing pond and licenses are available, as are propane tank refills. Lone Oak can also winterize and store your RV. Pets are welcome. In fact, our three English cocker spaniels accompanied us on this journey and did not have to pay any extra fees. Campers may also bring their own golf carts as it is quite a large facility.
Campers may reserve seasonal sites and it appears this is a popular option, although Lone Oak always seems to have room for a few extra campers. Cabins and Park Models trailers are also available for reservation and nightly, weekly or seasonal rental. Reservations were a breeze to make and the staff was cheerful and friendly and quite accommodating as to a choice of sites.
