I just bought a Chevy Tahoe SUV, and found an easy way to view the hitch ball and trailer coupler while hitching up. I partially opened the rear-window hatch until I could see a perfect reflection of the hitch in the smoked glass. Once that position was determined, I added two wire hooks to a shoelace and attached them to the window frame and the window itself, to keep the angle just right. This way, I know exactly when the coupler is over the ball.
I bet this will work with other models of SUVs as well.

I have an old pole lamp at home and I put it an inch or 2 away from the front of the hitch. I know I’m close when I hit it. F 350 pickup. Be nice!
