Winnipeg’s Redboine Sams help kids battling life-threatening illnesses
Since the start of the Good Sam Club in 1966, members have always been eager to lend a hand, and that’s especially true among the club’s nearly 1,500 Good Sam chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Chapter members across the continent contribute thousands of hours each year to raising money for worthy causes.
Take Manitoba’s Redboine Sams, for example. Last year the chapter hosted raffles and silent auctions at RV campouts and other outings, collecting the impressive sum of $1,600, all of which they donated to the Dream Factory, a Manitoba charitable organization. On December 7, 2012, Chapter President George Wiebe and his wife, Donna, and Historian Pat Scott and her husband, Jim, presented the Dream Factory’s Executive Director Grace Thomson with the substantial check (pictured).
The Dream Factory makes dreams come true for seriously ill children who desperately need a break from hospitals and medical treatments. Because of the Dream Factory, kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses throughout Manitoba can look forward to the trip of a lifetime, meeting their favorite celebrity or whatever their dreams inspire, reclaiming their childhood, even if just for a short time.
“Being able to raise this amount of money fills us with pride,” says George Wiebe, “and we feel honored to be able to assist children in their health struggles.” Chartered in 1991 as part of the Good Sam Club’s Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario provincial organization, the Winnipeg-based Redboine Sams chapter now unites 17 RVing families and five associate members.
