Unusual Spring Louisiana Festivals – You’ve got to admit, an area that celebrates shrimp & petroleum in the same festival in the fall, has some work to do to top the distinctive festival list, but Louisiana’s Cajun Coast has some interesting festivals in the spring as well that you’ll want celebrate a little differently. Cypress Sawmill Festival
This festival in Patterson, April 6-8, 2018, pays tribute to the cypress timber industry once one of the largest in the nation due to the expansive cypress stands found within the vast swamplands. There will be an All-American Lumberjack Show, live music, old engine display, food, music, crafts, and carnival rides. There will also be a tour of Louisiana State Museum’s Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum in Patterson. Road To 3rd Street – Songs On The Bayou Songwriters Festival
Presented by DaT SaUcE and Last Honky Tonk Music Series. This year’s festival promises to be the bayou adventure of a lifetime! April 5-15, 2018. We have events starting during the Cypress Sawmill Festival, with Sadie McClendon kicking it off April 6th before the KQKI Country Music Showdown, to Last Honky Tonk Music Series performances throughout the weekend. There’s also a celebrity golf tournament, fishing tournaments, fais do-do, late night bonfire jams, singing Swamp Tours, songwriters retreat, and performances at 15 venues all across Morgan City, Patterson, Stephensville, and way down Four Mile Bayou!
Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Festival
Celebrating the craftsmanship and long history of vessels made of wood, this festival for wooden boat enthusiasts takes place along the beautiful Bayou Teche in downtown Franklin, on Friday, April 20, 2018. The event includes antique and modern vessels, from small pirogues to larger craft.

Bayou Teche Black Bear Festival
Also held in downtown Franklin in conjunction with the Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Festival, April 20-21st, 2018, this celebration of Louisiana’s Black Bear features educational components along with Louisiana music and festival fare. The Louisiana Black Bear is on the threatened species list, but activities such as this one, highlighting the area’s natural resources and the recent establishment of the Bayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge, help foster a respect for local wildlife. Porch Fest
And, if all that festivaling is too much for you, slow down a little with the Porch Fest on April 21! Actually, there’s a lot of live music and jambalaya along with other festival fare, but since it takes place on the front porches facing Lawrence Park in Morgan City, you might just take a seat and visit a while.
