Spotlight: Temecula
Ride a balloon and pour a glass in this SoCal getaway
Come to Southern California’s wine country. Temecula, located just 60 miles north of San Diego, has a year-round climate that’s perfect for outdoor activities or indoor fun.
Wine Country
As soon as you arrive in Temecula, located in the hills east of Orange County, you’ll be hard-pressed not to see a grape vine. Temecula has a climate that’s ideal for growing grapes, with cool, foggy mornings that give way to warm, sun-kissed afternoons and clear, crisp, star-filled nights. There are over 30 wineries waiting for you to experience award-winning varietals. No matter what your taste, Temecula Valley Wineries can accommodate your palate. You’ll find Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and even Gewurztraminer.
Visiting a winery in Temecula is more than just buying a bottle of award-winning wine. You need to do it for the experience. Each winery is unique in its atmosphere, architecture and, of course, wine. For instance, you can visit a winery that’s housed in Snow White’s Cottage or another located on a rolling estate where you’ll feel wrapped in robes of luxury. Temecula’s wineries are as unique as each grape that comes off the vine.
Self-guided wine tours will help you find all the wineries from the comfort of your own vehicle. Find a designated driver if you plan to imbibe.

Hot Air Balloons
Hot air balloons are fun to watch from the ground, but riding in one is something unlike any other form of transportation. Some companies in Temecula offer hot air balloon rides. Each excursion typically takes about 60 to 75 minutes and they are offered seven days a week all year round, weather permitting.
If you happen to be visiting Temecula around the first week of June, make sure you check out the Temecula Balloon and Wine Festival. Every morning of the festival there’s a balloon launch. Get there early, because they take off around 6:30 a.m.
Old Town Temecula
Take a stroll through Old Town Temecula and you’ll find a variety of things to do. Quaint antique shops, specialty shops and art galleries are just a few of the ways to spend an afternoon. Be sure to stop by the Temecula Farmers Market to pick up some fresh herbs or homemade baked goods.
