The Olympics are upon us, the opening celebration kicking off the 30th Olympiad, and the third time the Olympics have been in London–more than any other city. And this year more women than men will be participating on the American teams, with women competing from some Arab countries–Saudi Arabia among them–that have never had women on their teams before.
But, unfortunately, there is still discrimination. Not against women so much any more, or Asians, or Blacks, but against RVers. Where are the athletes competing in RVing events, like backing up a motorhome with a dinghy in tow, or best approach to a gas pump in a crowded gas station.
We as a minority group have been overlooked again, as you can see there are obviously no RVing events in these games. They have a guy (a 400 meter sprinter) who is a double amputee who runs on “blades” instead of legs, but do you see any Fleetwood or Winnebago drivers taking corners on two (or maybe 3) wheels on the oval track in front of thousands of cheering spectators?
As hard as I looked I couldn’t find any schedule that included events like Fastest S’mores Cooker, Best Campfire Builder, Quickest Plate Filling at Pot Lucks, or Fastest Backing a Fifth-Wheel Into a Campsite. And where is the competition for the fastest campsite setup (including erection of camp chair and shade umbrella, hanging bird feeder, and popping a brewski, and Last Man (or Woman) Still Standing at the end of an RV Athletic Event.
I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any more! I say we all stand up together (but not while driving) and demand our rights to Olympic RVing events. And I mean now (if the Olympic committee waits any longer we may forget just what we were protesting for)!

I believe I found the first event. this past weekend I went to a race were cars/trucks pull campers in a figure 8. No traffic cop or signs at the intersection of the 8 either… Very funny to watch. Some AWSOME crashes. No injuries thankfully. After the camper race was the boat race…. Equally as fun.

Since ‘boondockin’ ‘ is gettin’ so ify, we’re thinking of haviing an RV Olympics out here at the RunningStar Ranch, in Coleman county TEXAS, in December!! It’ll be BOONDOCKIN ON THE EDGE OF THE DESERT; NO HOOK-UPS OF ANY KIND!!
WE’LL RAFFLE OFF THE GEORGIE BOY AND EVERYONE THAT COMES WILL GET A FRIENDLY LITTLE ‘KITTY’ FOR A DOOR PRIZE(we’ve got plenty) AND AN RV ‘PET’!!

Best laugh I had all day. My wifes brother and I have just this sort of RV contest every time we camp together. Of course he is 12 years my junior and he is pretty spry for a really big guy. The first couple of times he fooled me – like you had to be in the camp chair, then next time he added “with the open beer can” so I didn’t win at first. Now, everyone get the heck out of my way, I am winning. Vacation this year, I am adding 3 logs, split and stacked for the fire, then the chair and beer. Shoot, we wouldn’t even have to do anything but eat and drink some beers once the girls get the fire started and dinner cookin.
