When it comes to state parks, Oregon has an embarrassment of riches. RVers can choose from 53 parks in the state park system, 31 of which take reservations. Explore several of different environments that have made Oregon famous.
A great place to start is the state’s stunning central coast. Head to Beachside State Recreation Site, a few miles south of Waldport and north of Yachats. This small, exquisite destination campground sits alongside miles of broad, sandy beach that makes the park perfect for kite flying and beach combing. Every site is mere seconds from the beach, which makes the park perfect for watching storms, sunsets and whales. The park has 32 electric sites, including two accessible electric. Head north along the coast and check out Cape Lookout State Park, which can be reached by traveling an hour and a half west of Portland through the scenic Wilson River pass. Along the way, stop and enjoy waterfalls, scenic views and some great fishing.
A popular campground and day-use area, Cape Lookout is located on a sand spit between Netarts Bay and the ocean, providing a terrific view of the ocean with easy access to the beach. Beachcombing is popular here, and the park is reputedly a good place to find glass floats used by fishermen.

RVers who prefer proximity to the big city can stay at the L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, just 31 miles west of Portland. The hilltop Day-use area with its views of the Coast Range is perfect for family gatherings. You can get lost in the wilds of central Oregon by visiting Prineville Reservoir State Park, where fishing, hiking and relaxing are the order of the day. The upper reaches of the reservoir above Jasper Point and the Bear Creek tributary downstream from Prineville Reservoir State Park are known to yield abundant fish. Fly fishing opportunities are best along the Crooked River above Prineville Reservoir and downstream from Bowman Dam.
