Oregon Downpour

This is still very “fresh” in our memories. On recent trip to the Oregon coast just north of Florence we encountered a deluge of rain. I don’t mean just rain I mean “wild torrential rain” that hits upside down and backwards! Not even able to get out of our little 24 ft. Motor Home we decided to pull in at South Beach State Park and find one of the few campsites not under water. I crawled up on the back bed and directed him in. He jumped out and quickly plugged in the electric.
We spent a nice day then playing games, napping and hoping it would quit. We realized we were leaking up front above the queen sized bed…..”a little” which made us wish harder it would stop…..
Nothing to do but pack in towels by the leak and crawl into our nice dry bed.

Next morning in the sunshine we had sopped up and thought we had it all and got ready and took off. The first time he braked…..”whoosh” I got hit in the face with a bucket of water. That caused me to jump up rather fast. More stopping and sopping and now ready to take off again…..(we weren’t out of the campground yet). Another hit in the face with not quite as much water…..and stopped again! I said, “OK now I’m paid back for whatever it was I did”! So then quite sure all the water had come forward from lurking back in the corners and now I’m ready with a towel where it came out……So we turn on to 101 and flop! His full cup of coffee upends on my feet!

We stayed at Loon Lake Lodge & RV Resort (http://www.loonlakerv.com), one of the more scenic Oregon coast RV parks that offers camping, boating and fishing near the coast. It’s an excellent Oregon campground that makes a good basecamp for deer and elk hunting! The lodge also offers cabin and yurt rentals. The Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort is located about 45 minutes from Reedsport. It offers year-round resort Oregon coast lodging in cabins, yurts and motel rooms, or waterfront camping in scenic tent or RV park sites with full-hookups, satellite TV and Wi-Fi – all on one mile of lake frontage on the scenic Loon Lake. The marina offers jet ski rentals, boat rentals and pontoon boats.

By chance was this last fall? I was on the Oregon coast last fall staying in Newport. The night before leaving Newport recorded wind gusts of 81 mph along with the heavy rain! My 36′ Jazz 5th wheel was rocking real good. I was nervous enough that I decided to hook up to the truck so it would act like a anchor to hold the trailer and left the jack stands down. Figured if it was going to roll it would have to take the truck with it.

At least I didn’t have the leak like you did.
