We just returned from a trip to Port Orange Fl. We used our Pilot discount diesel fuel charge card for a 3rd time. To our dismay we found that the Pilot in St. Augustine Fl was $4.08.9 per gal, our discount made the price $4.03.9. The very next exit had a Kangaroo station with an advertised price of $3.69.9.
All three of our experiences with the so called savings charge card with Pilot have been an extreme overcharge compared to the prices in the local area.
We just received our copy of Good Sam Highway magazine and it just irked us to see on one of the first pages was an advertisement for “Member Benefits”. It quotes “members have saved over $200,000 with the new Pilot Flying J fuel discount!” This probably means the $.06 savings was the amount of discount they received over the overpriced Pilot base prices. Not on the price based on just watching the local advertising and purchasing our fuel based on the local market prices.
We feel that Good Sam should do some research before advertising as a Good Sam member you support and advertise a savings by using your or Pilot’s Flying A credit card. It seems to me this would be against your “code of conduct”
There is no doubt that Good Sam is receiving a kick back from Pilot but you should not do such false advertising to your members.
We are a member of most of your programs for a savings and I feel we are as most of your members, retired older age people who will not be able to continue our travels if we are duped into paying such overcharged prices.

Good Sam says: We chose to partner with Pilot Flying J because of their ability to cater specifically to the RVer with dump stations, diesel fuel additives, RV lanes, great food options, good interstate access, and available propane. They are also in the process of aggressively expanding their network of locations to better serve our members and are generally competitive in their markets.

Many factors can impact the current fuel prices in an area, like local taxes, proximity to the interstate and competitiveness in the market. Pilot Flying J always strives to be as competitive as possible in an ever-changing fuel market. They welcome your feedback regarding fuel prices so that they can investigate these matters on a case by case basis. I have forward your comments on to Pilot Flying J.

I agree with Gary Thomas. Why leave a high tax extreme regulatory state (CA), and go to another state equally punative to business with high taxes and extreme regulations (IL)? Mr Lemonis and the board of directors must have some information that is not obvious to the membership.

Good Sam is just joining the many corporations leaving our overtaxed state. But, Illinois? There are better choices.

I am needing Marcus Lemonis’ e-mail address. Last week at the National Rally in Phoenix, I was a Grand Prize Winner and Marcus said he would give me $25,000.00 for my 1997 Gulf Stream Sea Hawk fifth wheel and he told the CEO of Keystone to sell me a new fifth wheel of choice below his cost. Please forward this information to Marcus or have him contact me at [email protected].

      Thanks,
      Charley Carroll
