Getting Ready To Hit The Road

Wow…I can’t believe that we have been here in Apple Valley for nearly 3 months! We were supposed to spend the winter working at a KOA in Texas. We were so looking forward to it and loved the area and the folks. 10 days into our position we received a phone call…Terry’s 80 yo mother had fractured her back, falling off the roof. (Don’t even ask … we won’t go there!!!!) We explained the situation to our employers and hit the road for So Cal. Four days and one blow-out later, we arrived.

We own an RV lot in a resort in Apple Valley, CA that we bought 8 years ago. Both Moms live here as well as our son and family and we knew that at some point we would have to spend time here. We have used the lot very seldom, maybe 8 months total in 8 years, but we are glad we have it. We have been sitting here, trying to stay busy and not fret, but it is hard. His Mom was released for the Dr a week ago, so now we can start making tracks for ID.

We have completed our routine doctor and dentist appointments and have both been cleared for the trip. We have no major issues and we keep current with the routine care. We have washed the fiver and will wash the truck before we leave. The caulking is done and the bolts/nuts on the hitch tightened. The truck has been serviced and ready to go. Terry has installed his new radio antenna and his new radio is working well.

I will shampoo the carpets on the next warm day, the fridge is defrosted. Closets have been purged of video tapes, books, old clothing and stuff we just don’t use. The basement has been emptied and vacuumed. Windows are washed inside and out. We are ready to go!

We will head out in about 2 weeks. We need to stop in Salt Lake to have the DataStorm system serviced. While there, we will take some time to see some sights. When the weather says it is time, we will head north for Hiese Hot Springs, ID and our summer position. This will be our fourth year working there and we love it. There is so much to do and see. We stay very busy and the time just flies.

The past 8 years fulltiming have been the best of our lives. When we made the decision, our options were open. I don’t believe either of us thought we would love it as much as we do. We are the happiest folks on the road and look forward to many more years as fulltimers. Life is good……

Dianne, one last thing you should look into is getting your Shingles immunization. We got back from last years trip to the east and I came down with a bad case of Shingles that I am sloooooowly getting over…rash is gone but persistant low level chest pains. Paula got the immunization shot and is glad she did.
We divide our time between Big Bear and Fallbrook, CA and of course on the road. We just can’t seem to part with the houses but I think Big Bear will be on the block this summer. RV site with hook ups and all!

Have a good trip to ID. We’ll give you a honk on the air horns (and no Jake breaks) on our way through to Missoula to see the granddaughter!

I just recently found your blog but I have really enjoyed reading it. My family and I hope to become fulltimers within the next two years, so we are busy researching the lifestyle and learning as much as we can. Your site has given us a lot of great information and directed us to some great resources.
