You are asking yourself, “what does Spam have to do with Austin, Texas?” I will tell you…
There is an interesting festival there called Spamarama. Don’t you love it? This event, typically held in April, includes a cook-off, a music event of local artists, Spamalympics and, of course, an Spamburger eating contest.
There are many other fun things to do in Austin. There’s an event called Eeyore’s Birthday Party in April that is a fundraiser for nonprofit groups in the area. This fun party is full of costume contests, games, musical sessions and much more. Take the kids or grand-kids and spend the day celebrating this beloved donkey from Winnie the Pooh.
And only in Austin can you find the Pun-Off World Championships. What is that? It’s an event held in May where competitors have a duel of words. Something worth seeing definitely.
Then there is a Bat Festival held in August. This is Austin’s largest Arts & Crafts show featuring Arts, Crafts, Music, Food, Bat Watching, Children’s Activities, and Educational Displays. Attendance is around 40,000!
These are just some of the events in Austin and doesn’t even touch the local shopping, fine eating and so much more. Traveling to Austin is something everyone should do. If you are doing it by RV, there are some very nice parks locally.

Austin, TX is central Texas urban offering of what is truly a TX state of mind. Large enough to be Texas 4th largest city, but small enough that the people there are Texas friendly and characterize what Texas hospitality is all about. Long known as the Nashville of the south, music festivals as well as others abound. Spamarama is just one of many held annually at Zilker Park, on the shores of Town Lake, Colorado River. The Highland lakes chain of the Colorado River runs right thru downtown Austin separating what locals call North and South Austin. The lakes begin up around Marble Falls, TX at lake LBJ, then Lake Buchannan, Inks, 50 mile long Lake Travis, Lake Austin, then Town Lake splits downtown Austin. The entire central Texas Hill Country area described above is beautiful country for camping. This area also boasts the highest Whitetail Deer population in the nation. The Congress Ave. bridge in downtown Austin is home to the largest colony of ( whatever kind of Bats they are) Bats in all of North America. I beleive its said over 500’000 Bats live there. Ive witnessed them exiting the bridge at night in what is an unbeleivable sight so thick it looks like a cloud.
Spamarama has a best spam recipe contest at the festival every year. Beleive it or not, one year the winner was: Chocolate covered Spam. Better yet, they called it a
