Ville Platte is rich in history, legend, agriculture, natural resources and vibrant people. This colorful little town situation between Baton Rouge and Alexandria on US Highway 167 exudes a vibrant atmosphere that invites visitors drawn to its unique culture.

Planning a visit? Consult the Evangeline Tourism Commission.

Visit the Swamp Pop Museum, which chronicles the musical careers of local musicians known for their distinctive Louisiana sound. Check out an authentic jukebox that once pumped out local hits and peruse the colorful clothing worn by Swamp Pop artists.

GettyImages_176485759Find out why this town is considered to be the Smoked Meat Capital of the World. Le Festival de la Viande Boucanee (translation: Smoked Meat Festival) is held in June every year and offers a variety of savory smoked meats to sample. An incredible lineup of musicians keeps the party going.

Meat markets, restaurants and businesses from around the Ville Platte area set up booths at the Smoked Meat Festival each year for a chance at winning the World Championship Smoked Meat Cookoff. This is one of the most coveted titles in the Ville Platte area.

Other local festivals include the Louisiana Cotton Festival, which includes the running of Tournoi, an ancient game of French Knights. The Dewey Balfa Roots Festival, which salutes Cajun and Creole heritage, is held in the early spring.

Seeking outdoors adventure? Catch largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and red-ear sunfish on Lake Chicot in Chicot State Park, just 8 miles north of Ville Platte.
