We (don’t) like Ike!
Family commitments and other things kept me away from blogging last week, and I didn’t want to miss two weeks in a row, so today will be a “random thoughts” day with a couple of odds and ends that I hope you find interesting and/or useful.
I’m writing this from a hotel room. We left the Escapees RV park in Livingston, TX to get out of the path of Ike. But as fulltimers at least we get to take our home with us. You’d expect us to take refuge at a casino wouldn’t you? That’s what we did. Last night we were lucky to get a reservation at the Red Shoe RV Park, at the Coushatta Casino Kinder, LA. It may seem a little close to the action, but you have to strike a balance between distance and fuel availability. Today (Friday) they closed the RV park and chased us all out, so we took a room in their hotel. They next tried to clear all RVs off the property, even if you were a guest in the hotel. Several of us who had rooms, and were checked in, convinced them it was unsafe to send us back out on the road.
Emails From Casino Management
I sometimes receive emails from casinos regarding their RV policies. I’m happy to get these, because I want readers to have the most accurate information available. A few days ago I received an email from Casino Pauma in Pauma Valley, CA. Their RV policy is simple, clear, and very reasonable:
” This is Casino Pauma’s Operations Supervisor, I am contacting you regarding Casino Pauma’s listing on Casino Camper website. I wanted to clarify our policy for parking RV’s at Casino Pauma.”
“There are no hook ups of any kind and if you are hauling anything you may not detach while you are parked. There are no power hook ups. The time limit for parking is two nights. You must either be a club member or join the players club. Membership is free. You need to check in with security, either the manager or supervisor, and give the type of RV and a cell number if possible. You may not pull out your table, chairs or awnings. Remember we are not an RV Park. “
RV’s, Casinos, and Rock & Roll
Have you noticed that many new casinos, and those with expansion plans, are putting in an RV park and an entertainment venue? For example, look at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. They have an RV park with about 250 full hookup sites and an amphitheater that can seat over 5000. Besides the RV park they also allow overnight RV parking – now that’s an RV friendly place.
Our Casino Travel Plans
We hope to head north soon, and plan to spend several weeks visiting casinos in Midwestern states. In mid October we’ll likely return to Mississippi and the gulf coast casinos before heading to Florida for the winter. Now that Native American casinos in Florida have Class III gaming we may visit a one or two. I’ll be sure to give you location reports from anywhere interesting we go.
Happy travels, and good luck at the casinos,
