Most visitors to Seattle associate the Emerald City with the Space Needle, Starbucks and the Seahawks, but there’s also an excellent wine scene in town. Selections include Charles Smith Wines Jet City, Eight Bells Winery, Robert Ramsay Cellars and Domanico Cellars. About 20 miles north, the tasting-room-rich town of Woodinville has plenty of great vintners.

Ellensburg is a great place to explore regional wines produced in the surrounding Kittias Valley. Be sure to stop off at Elevage Wine Co., Thrall & Dodge Winery, Swiftwater Cellars, Springboard Winery and Gård Vintners. And while you’re in town, don’t miss a stopover at The Ellensburg Distillery, known for producing small-batch, lavender-infused Amethyst Gin.

The Yakima Valley boasts the highest concentration of wineries in Washington. The sunny region is often likened to wine regions in France, and it’s easy to spend days here going from winery to winery and tasting some of the best flavors in the state. Most travelers start their trip in Yakima proper before heading southeast toward the winery-dense Rattlesnake Hills area.

This small but dynamic community boasts a calendar filled with fun events, including the Great Prosser Balloon Rally and Harvest Festival in September. Did we mention wine? Set against the backdrop of the stunning, snow-capped Blue Mountains, Walla Walla is a charming city surrounded by rolling countryside and plenty of wineries. It’s at the heart of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most celebrated wine regions, and there are over 100 wineries and tasting rooms in the area. Don’t miss Northstar Winery, known for its excellent merlots, or drive into nearby Oregon to visit the lovely Castillo de Feliciana Vineyard and Winery.
