Kristy’s parents recently adopted a toy chihuahua. They call her “Baby Girl,” which seems like a strange name until you spend a little time with her. Then you realize that her name is perfect because she really is like a baby! She loves being held, and is happiest when snuggled up on a couch.
Sometimes she cries like a baby a little bit, too. Like many chihuahuas, Baby Girl is a bit nervous. She tends to get a little worried when she senses that circumstances are changing. For example, if Kristy’s parents are leaving the house, she begins to tremble. She doesn’t bark much, but her nervousness is obvious.
We’d love to take Baby Girl camping, but we’re not sure how she’ll take to it.
What about YOU? Do You take your pets camping? If so, what kind of pets and how do they like it?

I do agree with you, it depends on how place in that RVS in which you has taken your pet for camping. i think, surely you had lots of fun at the time of camp and also you had different experience with your pets at the time of camping on RVS.

Depend on how much place in that Rv?

We have an old black cat named Murphy who has been to Alaska and all the western states. He loves his little hideout in the 5th wheel – then we got “THE DOG”. She is a beautiful chow/blue heeler cross. She likes to travel as well but the cat and the dog aren’t too hot on each other. We can arrange the back seat of the big Ford diesel so the dog is on the cargo platform with her travel bed and the cat is on the small passenger side seat in his carrier. The door to the carrier is open and the small litter box and water dish reside on the floor on that side. We put the windshield sun screen between them and they hardly know the other one is there. They go everywhere with us and seem to really like the travels. Murphy hides behind the washer in the laundry room when we start packing up the 5’er to go on a trip. He resists getting captured but once he gets in the carrier, he is ready to go. He is 17 and we hope he hangs in there with us for a few more years. The dog will get ready if I jingle her leash. Quite a pair as long as we keep a little distance we are good to go.

We have a greyhound and a puggle that normally go camping with us. They love to investigate all of the new smells and scenery. They spend all of the time with us hiking or just hanging around the camp. I say normally because there are time when we go camping once a year where we go on all day trips from the base camp and it doesn’t seem fair to leave them locked up in the camper all day. Durring this once a year trip our puggle goes to stay with my sister-in -law for some major spoiling and to play with her dog and the greyhound get to go to the Greyhound Resort for some fun and frolic with other greyhounds.

We take our 3 yr old golden lab with us everywhere we go. We are still weekend warriors so we do have the option to leave her home if we wanted, but we tried that once and never again! (long story)
So now she travels with us where ever we go. It’s quite a bit more work to bring her with us and pack all her toys, food, medicine, etc. but now we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We are going on 3 years fulltiming in our 37′ motorhome – have had Shelby, our 8-year-old border terrier, with us the whole time. She is very calm as terriers go, and doesn’t bark except at ball playing time. She considers moving days to be jail time, as we put her in her bed in a harness attached to a seat belt – she’d much rather be on the passenger’s lap, but we aren’t willling to risk her becoming a lethal flying object in case of sudden stop. She also hates rallies, because we are gone too much – but she just sleeps when we’re gone, sometimes on our bed, which is off limits. Her favorite place is my husband’s lap, but any other available lap will do. She loves long walks through any kind of territory, and thinks all squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, and cats are fair game. We wouldn’t go without her.

we travel full time with 2 Westies 6 and 7 year old sisters. they love it. they do get nervous when we leave but we never stay away for more than 4 hours. When traveling we have a car seat for them that allows them to see everything and be harnessed in safely. If they nap on the way they get up with every blinker as they tink we have arrived or at least are stopping for a break. Wouldnt do it any other way. they hike when they are allowed and enjoy being outside sitting around campfire but not too close. good luck .
just rv it

You know, I don’t think that there isn’t a dog that doesn’t just love to travel and/or camp. With their wonderful noses and all the new stuff to smell. WELL..
Now a cat is another situation altogether. But, once they get used to it, also find it good. Always take your pets with you. You shan’t forget it and neither will they.

I traveled across the country eight times with my Flat Coat Retriever, Trango. He was a big guy, 96 pounds, and an out standing traveling companion. He had been in 47 states. He recently passed away and we have anew Flat Coat who, the good Lord willing will, make his first journey across our nation this summer. Regardless of the age or type of dog there is a reason they have long been thought of as man’s best friend. I always enjoy camping near folks who take their dogs with them.

We take our 14yo Keesh hound / Huskey mix with us. I do have to carry her up and down the rv steps. We also take our 16yo cat along. They both love to camp with us. Would not leave home without them.

We have 4 rescue dogs ranging in age from 14 to 2 yrs. old. They range in size from 90 lbs. to 10 lbs. We also have 3 cats ranging in age from 8 yrs to 2 yrs — all rescues as well. We take all 7 animals with us when we travel in our class A motorhome. As Glen stated above our pets/babies are one of the main reasons we travel in our motorhome so that we can have them with us. There are some “RV resorts” that we aren’t welcome at with our menagerie but there are many more campgrounds where the folks just shake their heads and ask us how do the cats and dogs alll get along so well. Can’t imagine traveling for an extended time and not having all my babies with us.

We have a Jack Russell terrier and a rat terrier. They love camping except for days when we’re gone from the rig all day. They live through it but get bored. They go crazy for at least 20 minutes when we return home. They are one of the reasons we travel in an RV, so they can go with us easily. They want US, They don’t care what we do or where we go. They also do okay in hotels but they prefer the RV.

Our chihuahuas love to go in the RV. They are so excited to see where the next destination might be. When we finally pul in to a campsite, they get so excited, wanting to see their new home. I can’t imagine not having them with us. They love exploring al the new places.

We take our Lhasa Apso camping with us all the time, but her health is failing she is going on 15, she really loves the beach and to travel, we could not image being without a pet they are our children as we had none.
