Georgia’s Lake Chatuge in Towns County: Whatever Floats Your Boat

A water skier gets serious air.

There are lots of ways to enjoy a lake, from boating to fishing, swimming and paddling. But what if there was a way to enjoy the lake without doing anything but sitting back and relaxing with a frosty drink in your hand, palm fronds blowing in the wind, soaking up the gorgeous summer sun? This is 100-percent doable in the mountains of northeast Georgia in Towns County on Lake Chatuge aboard the Aqua Tiki.

Aqua Tiki’s tag line is “Party Boats with an Island Vibe in Hiawassee, Georgia.”  And, all boats under the Aqua Tiki flag look like floating tiki huts! Now a fleet of three, the Aqua Tiki is a great way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, engagement, reunion or sunset cruise. The Aqua Tiki is fully equipped with a licensed captain, bartender, complimentary draft beer and wine, soft drinks and water, a grill and blender for fantastic concoctions. Also included: island music and a giant lily pad and morel It’s perfect for up to six people (larger groups can be scheduled by special request).

Kayaking on Lake Chatuge

This is a must-do on Lake Chatuge.  And, this is not just a warm-weather vessel. The Aqua Tiki can be booked in the cooler months for those fantastic fall colors in the mountains.  One of the boats is equipped with heat, so don’t let the brisk air curtail your lake plans. Sweetness on the Water

Another great addition to the floating fantasies on Lake Chatuge is Ice Cream Island. What could be better on those warm summer days than an ice cream bar serving bomb pops, creamsicles and many other frozen delicacies? Founded by a young high school entrepreneur, Ice Cream Island soon became a family affair. Now this candy-pink and white-pontoon craft floats most weekends, docking at many of the public ramps in Towns County. Just look for the candy stripes, inflatable palm tree and ice cream cones.  And, if you don’t see it, you’ll hear it, because to complete the effect, the Ice Cream Island also plays the same type of music that the “ice cream man” plays in his truck.  Warning: When your children hear this sound on the lake, your plans for the day have changed!  Ice Cream Island runs on weekends only during the summer months, posting their location each week on Facebook.

Sunset over Lake Chatuge

And, if you’re planning to visit with children, don’t miss the new Splash Island Water Park at The Ridges Resort on Lake Chatuge.  This inflatable floating obstacle course offers different activities:  bouncing platform, giant slides, climbing wall and more.  Splash Island has been a big hit since it opened in May of 2019 and offers extended hours during the summer/no-school months and then after-school until Labor Day.  Adults love this over-the-top adventure as well. It proves to be quite an athletic challenge for any age!  For amazing fun on the water, plan to visit Towns County and Lake Chatuge this summer — all you’ll need is your bathing suit!
