Few states can compete with Florida when it comes to variety and sheer fun of its snowbird adventures. From reeling in hefty tarpon on the Gulf Coast to going on an upscale shopping spree in downtown Tampa, the Sunshine State caters to snowbirds of every feather.

1. Destin

Paradise on the Florida Panhandle is really the only way to describe Destin, one of the country’s best beach and fishing destinations. Located 48 miles east of Pensacola and nestled on a peninsula that separates the Gulf of Mexico to the south and Choctawhatchee Bay to the north, the area is a beachcomber’s mecca. It’s also earned the nickname as “the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” boasting the state’s largest charter fishing fleet, with vessels that take fishing enthusiasts out to Gulf waters to catch vermilion snapper, amberines and white snapper.

A gem on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Fort Myers and its surrounding beaches and islands constitute an excellent, sun-filled getaway. Not only does the region boast miles of beaches covered with white sand and colorful seashells, it’s also home to numerous museums, restaurants, family-friendly theme parks and scenic waterways.
