Wisconsin: Take a foodie tour of Door County, the Midwest’s Cape Cod

This Door County community is home to a classic farmers market where locals meet to trade gossip as they peruse the harvest. Regional fare includes locally made maple syrup, cheese and bratwurst, along with organically grown herbs, fruits and vegetables. There are plenty of fresh-baked pastries, homemade jams and jellies, and freshly baked cakes and pies to satisfy any sweet tooth.


2. Egg Harbor

Egg Harbor offers the best in artisan cheese and wine in a quaint one-stop package. Harbor Ridge Winery features only uncommon Wisconsin cheeses—those made in small vats with distinctive flavors and aromas that pair superbly with the handcrafted wines. With over a dozen vintages to choose from, you’re sure to find one that appeals to your tastes.

3. Ellison Bay

Nestled in the woods of Door County, Wickman House delivers on the promise of farm-fresh-to-table cuisine. 4. Baileys Harbor

This Lake Michigan town is the foremost fishing destination on the lake, and after a day of angling, nothing goes down better than fresh seafood. Residents head for Harbor Fish Market & Grille with a view of the lake, and local perch and white fish on the menu, along with fresh Atlantic salmon and crab legs. Mark your travel calendars for the traditional New England Lobster Boil held every Wednesday and Friday, and on weekends. It’s a must-attend event for folks who enjoy succulent crustaceans.

5. Brussels

Celebrate the Old Country during Belgian Days, held every July in the town that bears the name of the European nation’s capital. Enjoy Belgian cuisine, Old World customs and several events to benefit charity. Attendees can indulge in pies, trippe, potato jutt, booyah and burgers. And yes, there will be Belgian waffles. Not feeling hungry? Belgian music and dance will be performed.

6. Two Rivers

If you’re the kind of fisherman who loves a good fight on the end of the line, then Carp Fest is for you. Held every June, Carp Fest features food, drinks, live music, and the Wisconsin Carp catch-and-release fishing tournament, where world-class carp fishermen angle for a spot on Team USA and the chance to fish in the World Carp Championship.
