1. Borden-Carleton

Starting Point

Borden-Carleton sits at the northeastern end of the 8-mile-long Confederation Bridge, which spans the Northumberland Strait that separates the island from the mainland province of New Brunswick. Drive 16 miles • 24 minutes

As the second-largest community on the island, Summerside hosts all of the amenities and attractions that you can expect from a medium-size city. A great place to start is the Summerside Waterfront, home to the fabulous Spinnaker’s Landing. This array of shops and eateries sits on a pier complex and provides beautiful views of the Northumberland Strait.

3. Cavendish

With tasty food and family-friendly beaches in full swing, Prince Edward Island’s largest summer community epitomizes life on this charming island. Cavendish Beach offers miles of dunes, cliffs and wetlands to enjoy, including red sandstone bluffs at the eastern edge. In town, hit up the handful of beachside restaurants to try the local Malpeque oyster — a hand-harvested variety and the perfect introduction for oyster newbies. After eating, stop by the Green Gables House, which inspired author Lucy Maud Montgomery to pen the literary classic, “Ann of Green Gables.”
