Where the Stars Shine Bright
The central part of the state offers a vast array of choices for entertainment, adventure and relaxation, Texas style. There’s plenty to see, including not only the rolling hills for which this area is named, but also sprawling state parks, majestic rivers, historic towns and, of course, those famous fields of bluebonnets that stretch to the horizon.
Start your trip with the Texas capital city of Austin, with its pink granite Capitol Building. Museums and other sites celebrate the state’s frontier days. Enjoy the world-famous Austin City Limits Music Festival, held each year at the Moody Theater on Willie Nelson Boulevard.
The Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library is in Austin, and 48 miles to the east, Johnson City is the boyhood home of the 36th U.S. president. Johnson City also is the gateway to Pedernales Falls State Park, with picture-perfect waterfalls and prime fishing in the Pedernales River.
About 22 miles north of Johnson City, the picturesque town of Marble Falls overlooks the Colorado River and is near scenic lakes, breweries and wineries.
Guten Tag, Texas
Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants, and its architecture, cuisine, award-winning wineries and authentic celebrations of old-world customs are among the reasons travelers flock here. Another reason is the pink, granite dome rising 425 feet above the base elevation of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a hiker’s haven.
Hill Country waterways offer lots of angling possibilities. Spend some time in the town of Junction on U.S. Route 377, which follows the South Llano River. This patch of Kimble County has more flowing streams than any other area in the state.
