Discover ‘Treasure’ on Florida’s Atlantic Coast

Wade in the Water
The waterways running through St. Lucie, as well as the Atlantic Ocean, provide recreation and education for thousands of people a year. Whether you seek saltwater trophies or freshwater finds, St. Lucie is a fisherman’s dream. In nearby Lake Okeechobee you can cast for trout or flounder; on the ocean you can catch marlin, wahoo, kingfish and swordfish.
Learn more about the aquatic ecosystems surrounding St. Lucie during a visit to the St. Lucie County Aquarium and the Manatee Observation and Education Center. The aquarium works in conjunction with the Smithsonian Marine Station to protect, understand and preserve the numerous species that call South Florida home. The main attraction is a 3,000-gallon coral reef exhibit that was previously housed in the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
The manatee center has been educating visitors about Florida’s favorite aquatic mammal for more than 20 years through programs and boat tours, which help guests understand how manatees live in their native habitats.
Frogmen and Outfielders Thrive
Exploring some of the area’s historic sites. The Navy SEAL Museum and the PGA Historical Center hit the high notes for many visitors. Little ones love the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast, and baseball fans will be delighted to catch a practice game at Traditions Field when the New York Mets are in town for spring training. Once the game is called, head over to the Elliott Museum and peruse the largest collection of memorabilia and artifacts outside Cooperstown.
PGA Village welcomes golfers of all levels to hone their swings and take their games to the next level. The complex includes 54 holes of championship golf, masterfully laid out by design legends Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. The state-of-the-art 35-acre PGA Learning Center offers state-of-the-art instruction.
