Post Falls
Savor a true jewel in the gem state
Post Falls, Idaho, is a scenic slip of land that sits on a stretch of the Spokane River. Post Falls is a lumber town, having grown from a solitary lumber mill constructed by a German immigrant in 1871. Timber manufacturing continues to dominate the Post Falls economy, but these days, because of its abundance of natural beauty, its idyllic location and the general calm that flows through the community as silently and majestically as the Spokane River itself, Post Falls is rapidly becoming a tourist hotspot.
Post Falls Food
From the award-winning Fleur de Sel, a modern French fine-dining experience, to Nate’s New York Pizza, where diners can gorge themselves on New York-style pizzas and a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere, Post Falls has it all. One of the most popular restaurants in this sleepy city is the White House Grill, which is open most hours, serving lunch, dinner and after-hours menus. This grill serves-up fresh and sumptuous Mediterranean food, with a succulent main menu of Souvlaki, Sarma and Kebobs, finished off with Baklava, Tiramisu and Rice Pudding. If you’re looking to grab a quick breakfast or brunch, head on over to East Schneidmiller Avenue and the Old European will cook you up a range of breakfast essentials, topped off with a pot of steaming coffee. If you like your breakfast with a little more bite, G W Hunters, on North Spokane Street, will prepare you a protein feast that they like to call “The Best Breakfast in Town.”
From typical American fare, to Chinese, Greek, Italian and Japanese food, Post Falls can cater for all tastes and all occasions. If you’re looking for something a little more unique, then Moon’s Lounge might have what you need. This grill and lounge serves-up a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere that comes complete with live music, karaoke and an assortment of authentic Mongolian food—a cuisine laden with diary and meat dishes.
For after dinner treats, couples, romantics and other responsible adults can enjoy the calm and friendly ambiance offered by the Enoteca Drinkery and Refuge, a shop that sells fine wines and allows customers to try before they buy; keen sportsmen and women can play a few holes at the Highland Golf Course, a challenging and rewarding course; and families can enjoy the lively atmosphere created by the El Patio Bar and Grill, home to eleven flat screen televisions, an indoor golf game, a jukebox and regular karaoke nights. There are a number of bars and drinking establishments within Post Falls — including Bob’s 21 Club, Slab Inn and the Falls Club — where you can grab anything from a frosty beer to wind down after a busy day, to a colorful cocktail to gear you up for a lively night.
Small Town Charm
Post Falls is a small city, home to an estimated 30,000 people, but there is a lot to offer for anyone willing to look.
Standing on William Street, where a beautiful gothic steeple punctures the clear Idaho sky, is the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Centre (JACC). This beautiful and historic building, locally known as “The Old Church,” was rescued from demolition and lovingly preserved by the JACC, which makes it their mission to spread culture and arts throughout the Post Falls community. The JACC holds a number of events in this impressive building, including music concerts and theater performances. They also open their doors as a wedding venue and to teach cooking classes to any locals who want to brush up on their culinary skills.
High-Speed Fun
If you are looking for an adrenaline-fueled experience that you won’t forget in a hurry, then head over to State Line Speedway, a hotspot for racing fans. State Line hosts a number of races and other events geared towards fans of the sport, such as swap meets, car shows and driving lessons. If cowboy boots, Stetson hats and denim are more your thing, take a trip down West Seltice Way and join the friendly folks at Big Al’s Country Bar for a drink, a dance and some live country music.
There is a lot to see and do in Post Falls, but one of its most redeeming features is its natural beauty, and there is no better way to see it in all of its glory than by visiting one of its parks. From the shimmering lakes of Falls Park, which offers 22-acres of the best picnicking land in the state, to Corbin Park and the breathtaking Black Bay Park, Post Falls has copious amounts of beauty waiting to be discovered.
