Welcome to Georgia

There’s no shortage of talking points when it comes to Georgia, a state that’s steeped in the history of the Antebellum South yet which also blazed a trail forward in the creation of an innovative, high-tech economy. Visitors to the Peach State will find themselves entranced with Southern charm in Atlanta and wrapped up in the timeless mystic of Old Savannah.

Must-visit top attractions include the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, the World of Coca-Cola and the CNN Center, where guests can enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour. In Savannah, the Bonaventure Cemetery is an intoxicating draw, luring visitors with its mix of famous residents.

Adventure

There’s no shortage of adventure waiting for visitors to Georgia, especially along its sparkling Atlantic coastline, which stretches for more than 100 miles between Savannah and St. Marys. Ribbons of incredible beaches buffer the coast.

Cumberland Island National Seashore is among the more popular coastal destinations. A hop, skip and a jump from St. Marys, Cumberland Island is Georgia’s largest barrier island—home to forests, beaches, marshland and nearly 10,000 acres of federally designated wilderness. It’s an ideal place to escape city life for an afternoon or entire weekend.

Further inland from St. Marys is another popular spot for outdoor adventure—Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Primarily swampland, the refuge is home to several endangered species.

If you don’t have the time to escape from the big cities of Atlanta or Savannah, there’s always Piedmont Park (Atlanta) and Forsyth Park (Savannah). Piedmont Park offers 185 acres of escape right in the middle of the city. It’s also home to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Forsyth Park, in the heart of downtown Savannah offers idyllic walking paths.

Heritage

From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, Georgia has played a prominent role in the arc of the American story. History buffs will be in their element here. Check out the Antebellum Trail, a 100-mile course that winds through the seven historic areas that escaped the wrath of Union General Sherman’s 1864 march of destruction during the Civil War.
