Sip, savor and saddle up…in Cochrane
Cochrane is nestled at the base of the Big Hill in the Bow River Valley, with views of the foothills and Rocky Mountains. Just minutes from northwest Calgary, Cochrane sits in the heart of cattle country and on the historic Cowboy Trail.
The Town of Cochrane developed around the location of the Cochrane Ranche, the site of Alberta’s first large scale livestock operation in 1881. Visitors can enjoy the Historic Cochrane Ranche Site, near the junction of Highways 1A and 22. Hike up to see the “Men of Vision” statue on the hillside above the park. Visit the Cochrane Farmers Market, Saturday mornings (from June to the end of September) or step back in time at the Cochrane Historical Museum (open Friday through Sunday in summer).

Cochrane is known for its outdoor activities, within Cochrane and in the vicinity. Watch hang gliders float gracefully down from above the Bow Valley Trail. Biking and walking trails are found around in town and along the river. Fishing, boating and kayaking are complemented by golf, horseback riding and white water rafting a short drive away.
Explore the historic downtown with shopping, restaurants and places to sit and rest in the shade of the trees lining the main street. Enjoy a MacKay’s ice cream and see Alberta’s 3rd oldest working hotel.
