Family Fun in the South Central States
From sultry Louisiana bayous to dusty Texas plains, you’ll discover new worlds in America’s South Central States. You could spend a lifetime sampling all of Cajun and Creole the delicacies in Louisiana, but save some vacation days for the great plains of Kansas, the rugged Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas, Texas Hill Country and the fish-rich lakes of Oklahoma.

Arkansas
Arkansas turns up the heat on family fun. Drop into Hot Springs, and then take a dip in the town’s namesake waters after hiking in the surrounding mountains. While in Hot Springs, you’ll also want to take the kids to the National Park Aquarium and the three family-fun parks in town. Back in your RV, drive over to Salesville to spend the day in the Norfork National Fish Hatchery.
Kansas
Folks who’ve never visited Kansas may only know it from the Wizard of Oz, but visitors will be delighted to find a state with a variety of attractions. You’ll need to take the kids to the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, after which you’ll want to visit the Sedgwick County Zoo. And if you’re a fan of Dorothy, you’ll also want to visit the Oz Museum in Wamego.

Louisiana
Several Pelican State towns celebrate Mardi Gras, but there’s a lot more to Louisiana than throwing beads. See gators galore in Houma and relive history in Baton Rouge. A river cruise up the mighty Mississippi might be in your future; some cruise ships will even accommodate your RV. Enjoy the food, the music, the ambiance, the people and the history of New Orleans and beyond.
Missouri
It’s show time in the Show Me State. At Branson, singers, musicians and comedians wow audiences in theaters across town. In the surrounding Ozarks, fishing and boating help you while away the hours. Travel to St. Louis and take a ride to the top of the 630-foot Gateway Arch. Nobody does barbecue quite like Kansas City, so treat the brood to a meal slathered in flavor.
Oklahoma
Give your family a passenger seat to American history along Route 66; more than 400 miles of the Mother Road run through Oklahoma, and you can learn about it at the Route 66 Museum in Clinton. Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees is an ideal setting for fishing and boating vacations, while the Chickasaw Nation lets you experience the customs and culture of Native American peoples. The state’s capital is home to the world-class Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, where exotic animals from tigers to elephants dazzle visitors.
Texas
Cowboy style blends with big city living in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The family will love watching the Daily Cattle Drive in the legendary Fort Worth Stockyards. Beyond the city, Hill Country entices travelers to explore rolling hills and quaint old-world towns. Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is a must, and on the Gulf Coast, Galveston and San Padre Island beckon beachcombers. Along the Rio Grande River, the Texas Tropics will open your family’s eyes to an amazing variety of butterflies and birds.
