1. Sturgeon Bay
Starting Point • Food, History
Door County’s a long, narrow peninsula and Sturgeon Bay is the biggest town on your route. So it’s a great place to stock up on winery and brewery tours, farmer’s markets and museums. We particularly recommend the Door County Maritime Museum and the Door County Historical Museum. The Farm is farm-like family fun – baby goats and more.
2. Egg Harbor
Drive 17.4 miles, 25 minutes • Entertainment, Outdoor Recreation, Quirky
At the last census, Egg Harbor was home to 200 happy folks. Happy with good reason — their region is famous for outstanding scenery, national-class golf courses, great art galleries, varied shops and boutiques, and fun celebrations. And did we mention Egg Harbor’s classic car show; AleFest, and Girlfriends Great EGGscape? Enjoy concerts in the park, parades, concerts, and more.
3. Ephraim
Drive 12.4 miles, 21 minutes • Entertainment, History, Sports
Founded in 1853 as a Norwegian Moravian religious community, Ephraim is an historic and lovely small town with an excellent waterfront location and a beautiful historic district. Take in summertime concerts at the town’s waterfront. Or catch live theater at Northern Sky Theater. Play a round of golf at Peninsula State Park Golf Course, or get a facial at The Spa at Sacred Grounds.
4. Northport
Drive 16.3 miles, 27 minutes • Entertainment, History, Nature
Northport marks the northernmost tip of the Door Peninsula. It’s a quiet place; a haven for birders and photographers, especially in fall with its beautiful foliage. Chill out then take the ferry to Washington Island and drive every one of the island’s 100 miles of highways. Cruise past scenic rocky shores and deep forests. Take an art class, visit the Maritime Museum, see the Art and Nature Center.
5. Bailey’s Harbor
Drive 21.1 miles, 32 minutes • Food, History, Outdoor Recreation
Heading south, your next stop is Bailey’s Harbor. Cana Island Lighthouse kept old-time sailors safe on Lake Michigan’s waters. It’s worth a visit — view the historic lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper’s home. Reel in the big ones with a guided fishing tour. How about a watery adventure in a glass-bottom kayak? Zip line anybody? Or treat yourself to a great meal at the local Yacht Club Resort. Drive 22.4 miles to return to Sturgeon Bay and complete the loop.
